391760_478133002205014_319241049_nThis month’s SO45 Lottery beneficiary will be The Handy Trust which is our very own LOCAL full youth supports services.  The Handy Trust works with young people from ages 0-25 providing information, advice and guidance on just about anything.  These can range from anything to do with:

  • Sexual Health and Contraception
    Drug & Alcohol Advice
    Housing
    Jobs & Apprenticeships
    Loneliness
    Bereavement
    Bullying
    General Life Support

394330_478138595537788_935187337_nWith support from the Parish Council, the Handy Trust are able to provide a team of Youth Workers who make all this happen.  However without fundraising they would not be able to offer the project work and support that they have worked for years to achieve.  The Handy Trust since it launched in September 1999 really have made the difference to so many youths growing up who are now able to take pride in what they have achieved and the difference it has made to their lives and will continue to do so with the support of our community.

Along with activities such as, Christmas Extravaganzas, skate park competitions, and outings, Youth workers are always at hand to speak to any young person that might needs their assistance or perhaps just to talk even providing a valuable group for young parents.  During term time Youth clubs run each week running at Hythe, St Andrews, Marchwood and soon to be Fawley costing only £1 and during holiday time this is on EVERY Weekday and is FREE to all.  Please see the list below.  Hopefully once the Fawley club is up and running there are hopes to provide a Sports Youth club once a week which we are sure will prove to be very popular.

As well as Youth Clubs The Handy Trust offer drop in centres at local Secondary Schools  Noadswood and Applemore and soon to be Hardley offering an opportunity for anyone to discuss any issues that they might have.  They also work closely with the Schools in providing educations and information on body development, sexual Health and awareness.  This is such an important issue that has to be addressed with children throughout the stages of their growth and over the years the team build a strong and trusting relationship with that generation.

1265717_191103114405366_421764204_oThe Handy Trust in collaboration with ‘Friends of ewart Rec’ which include the brownies, guides, Scouts and Cricket Club are bringing to us Ewart Rec Fete to be held on 25th May where the team will also be on hand selling the SO45 Lottery Tickets (over 16’s only please).  The event will have various stalls, gyms shows and entertainment and we are sure will be a great family day out.

Manager and Lead Youth & Community Worker Candy Huxham has dedicated so much of her life to what she does and is now bringing up a number of new Youth workers with the same dedication, passion and empathy that she has shown all these years.  It is no wonder she has previously won the Youth Worker of the year award which she accepted in The house of Parliament.   Candy will soon receive the prestigious High Sheriffs Award.  Long may the work that is done often behind the scenes continue.

We are so very pleased to be supporting the Handy Trust this month and hope that you are to so please show your support by purchasing one ticket.  All it takes is £2 and the Winner could be YOU!
