Mount Kilimanjaro Challenge for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance
February will see Samantha Di-Carluccio taking part in the biggest challenge of her life. A small group will be attempting to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to raise as much money a possible for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
As people of the community are aware, the air ambulance provides an invaluable service. Operating since July 2007, they work tirelessly every day of the year. As they are not government funded it means they are wholly dependent on donations they receive and sponsorship raised by people like Samantha.
The challenge they are attempting, as mentioned before, is Kilimanjaro, which stands at a staggering 19,341ft. The climb in total will take 7 days, with about 5-6 hours each day spent trekking. They will experience a wide range of conditions, starting in desert heat and finishing in sub minus temperatures, with very thin air.
Training has been pretty much relentless for Samantha who is doing as much as she can to physically prepare herself such as running, long walks, boxing, weight training and of course the mental preparation.
WHEN THEY CALLED IT A CHALLENGE THEY REALLY WERENT KIDDING!!!
