JUNE Lottery Cause
Charlie born on 29th September 2008 is only 6 years old and currently goes to Hythe Primary School. Charlie suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) which is a progressive condition that affects all muscles in the body including the organs with a life expectancy of late teens to very early twenties.
Charlie was only 2 years old when his Mum Claire-Rose Young and Dad Ben Anderson had the heart breaking news that Charlie had DMD. It was only when Charlie did not reach particular stages that you would expect that he began speech therapy where it was notice that there were problems with Charlie’s walking. After various follow-ups and tests, Charlie was diagnosed.
DMD is caused when a part of the genetic coding is missing called Dystrophin which would normally help repair the muscles. Without this gene Muscles will over time get weaker and weaker and eventually cause paralysis, problems with lung function and heart failure. Sadly there is no cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy however there are ways of making Charlie’s life more comfortable and as ‘normal’ as any other child his age growing up.
Supporting Charlie this month with the SO45 Lottery is something we feel very passionately about and would like with your help to raise more than we have before. Not only do we want to raise money to help adapt his home to accommodate Charlie we also want to raise that all important awareness of his cause. His parents are constantly fund raising so that they can provide much needed equipment at home such as a bed, hoist, toilet, wet room, wheel chair access and so much more. If you visit the Facebook page or the website www.achanceforcharlie.com you will see upcoming events that are being organised. Various events include cake sales, regular craft evenings and soon there will be a Bubble Disco for ages 5 + at The W.I Hall in Lunedale Road in Dibden Purlieu to be held on Sunday 5th July 2-3pm. It will be great fun for all the family! There will be a disco, bubbles, face paints, tuck shop and more!
Charlie’s mum Claire-Rose is also in the early stages of organising abseiling down the Spinaker Tower so watch this space… All Charlie’s parents want is for their little boy to have as much independent living as possible and live a happy life without the worries of what he is going through on his shoulders. If ever there is a time to support one of our own, it is now. This is a 6 year old child that needs our help and it will cost you £2. This is what our community is about. So spread the word and ask your neighbour, your cousin, your friend, HAVE YOU GOT YOU LOTTERY TICKET YET????
