SO45 Online Charity Golf Day Success

SO45 Online Golf Day

What a day we all had? Friday May 31st and the sun was baking on SO45 and the venue for the very first SO45 Online Charity Golf Tournament, Dibden Golf Course.

There were 60 local SO45 born and bred golfers battling it out to be crowned the best player in the waterside area as well as be handed the inaugural Paul Brogan Memorial Trophy.

So who is the best golfer in SO45 2013

All entrants were screened for their handicap and their SO45 credentials. The rules were the winner of the main Paul Brogan Memorial Trophy had to of been born, work or live(d) in SO45 to qualify to play.

We are very pleased to announce that Langley’s own Dave ‘The Champ’ Thorne aged 72 was victorious on the day with 40 stableford points.  Please see below the picture of our champion with the Paul Brogan Memorial Trophy and our Editor Donna Ross.

The Champ narrowly beat Tim Lines, Heath Bland and Tom Hawkins who all finished on 38 points.

The Paul Brogan Memorial Trophy – Some background

Paul Brogan sadly passed away last October after a brief but courageous fight against cancer.

A lot of you will have known Paul. He was as well as being a lovely son and brother, a fantastic dad and a great friend to many, a keen and talented golfer, a member of the Langley Tavern Golf Society and would no doubt have been here playing in the tournament if things had been different.

Our plan is for the SO45 Online Charity Golf Day to be the biggest and best golf tournament in the area, to be staged every year, raising £1000’s for local good causes and having Paul’s name associated with this event and our biggest trophy is a fitting tribute to him and all of your memories of him.

Charity begins at home……well on our doorstep in SO45

Before we give you the golf results we would like to let you know how the fund raising went. Our main beneficiary of the day was the Waterside Cancer Support Centre.

We have handed them a cheque for £2,500 which will go along way to helping them cover their costs for the fantastic and valuable work they do.

We also made a donation of £1,500 to Paul Brogan’s beautiful daughter Aimee. This was handed to Paul’s family who all attended the presentation on the day. Thank you Chris, Elaine, Jayne, Lucy, John, Lianne and Aimee for showing your support and being there for Paul.

A huge thank you

£4,000 is an amazing return from one golf day we would like to thank everyone that contributed to this.

From Paul Smith and Ellie Preston at Mytime (Dibden) Golf, all the SO45 Online sponsors, all of the raffle prize donations, hole sponsors, all 60 golfers, to all friends and family that came along to support and buy raffle tickets.

A special thanks to ex-saint Mark Dennis for organising the Rickie Lambert signed No.7 Saints shirt and for Richard Bland for donating the 4 ball with himself and Matt Le Tissier as well as the Golf Shoes which funnily enough his brother Heath won and then auctioned off and again he won this as well, very funny moment!

Also a big thank you to Kevin Cull at Brooks Macdonald who work closely with my financial planning company Encompass Financial Management for the very kind donations of golf balls, tee’s and pens for all competitors on the day. I received many thank you’s from all of the players for these kind gifts.

A big thank you also to Mo at YK Photography for the photos as well.

We would like to make one final thank you to Chris & Elaine Brogan (Paul’s mum and dad) and the family for allowing us to honour Paul’s memory by having the SO45 Online Charity Golf Day’s main trophy named after Paul. Thank you. We were very honoured to be able to remember him in this way.

SO45 Online Charity Golf Day 2014

We will be back next year and all of those of you who played this year will have first refusal to play again in what I’m sure will be another fantastic day.

Thanks again to everyone involved and get practicing for next year!
